Contrary to what your parents and grandparents may have said – too much time in front the television or computer screen does NOT cause or aggravate astigmatism. However, for optimal eye wellbeing, your eyes should rest and recover intermittently from long periods of light and screen exposure. Think of how our tired our bodes become when pushed to the limits. Tired eyes require extra care and protection the same way our bodies do.

Let’s start you off with some correct information. Here are four popular myths we’ve debunked…

Kids, sadly will have no knowledge that their vision is distorted until they are taken for an examination. This is where regular eye exams are important for monitoring and tracking any changes with vision. If left undetected for too long, it can lead to permanent damage such as amblyopia or ‘lazy eye’. With astigmatism it is important to catch early on.

MYTH 3: ASTIGMATISM COMES FROM POOR READING HABITS

Like screen time, reading does NOT cause or aggravate the condition of astigmatism. Simply because it’s cause by irregularities in the cornea or lens and not from reading habits or the type of lighting someone reads in.
