Sunfast Lenses

Photochromic lenses, also known as light-adaptive or variable tint lenses, are lenses that are clear indoors and darken automatically when exposed to sunlight. They save users from having to switch between prescription glasses and sunglasses when going outside, and also avoid the need to source prescription lenses for sunglasses, which can be costly and problematic depending on the shape of the frame.

The most popular brand of photochromic lenses worldwide is Transitions, and because of this, many people refer to photochromic lenses as “transitions lenses” or “transition lenses”. However, there are other brands of photochromic lenses available, including  SunFast, which is available exclusively at Courts Optical, and features a number of other benefits not found with Transition products.

Photochromic lenses work when ultraviolet radiation from the sun activates molecules within the lenses. Because UV rays penetrate clouds, photochromic lenses will darken on overcast days as well as sunny days – this is why you can also experience sunburn even when it doesn’t seem particularly sunny!

Crystal Vision Sunfast technology allows the photochromatic lenses to activate with both UV and visible light, providing protection against UVA & UVB lights behind the windshield.
